Where to store your POōLE.

The best place to store your POōLE is in a location that is convenient such as on a hanger or clamp connected to a deck or pool shed. Many people purchase broom or garden took hangers or hooks to store their POōLE. Most customers store their POōLE as close to their pool as possible, so it is handy and readily accessible.

Tired of your skimmer basket handle falling out?

Try replacing the ridge handle with a nylon shoelace or piece of ¼ inch nylon string. Insert the shoelace through each side of the basket, clip off the tip, and make a figure 8 knot at each end so the shoelace will not fall out. By the way, because shoelaces and nylon sting are flexible, the basket should self-center when being lifted with the POōLE.

When I pick-up my skimmer basket with the POōLE it slides to the end of the basket handle.

There are several reasons for the skimmer basket sliding to the side when lifted using the POōLE. The underside of many types of basket handles is not flat, so the POōLE basket hook cannot be centered. In addition, the debris trapped in the skimmer basket is never equally distributed. Gravity causes the basket to tilt, heaviest side down. Although it may look awkward if POōLE basket hook slides to one-side the basket handle, it should not fall off. Replacing the basket handle with a shoelace or piece of ¼ inch nylon string not only allows the POōLE hook to remain centered, but also the string does not fall out and will last for years.

Is your skimmer cover stuck?

Skimmer covers expand with heat and dirt can get trapped along the edges making removal difficult. Try cleaning the edges of your cover with steel wool or lightly sand to remove the dirt.

How to take a water sample without lying down.

Many pool experts recommend water samples be taken at a depth of 18 inches. Clip the bottle to the end of the pole, just above the hook unit, and insert the POōLE into the pool until red “Water Sample” line on the label touches the water. You now have a water sample, taken at the correct depth. Don’t forget to rinse the bottle before you take a water sample. Of course, because your using the POōLE filling and emptying the water sample bottle to rinse it is quite simple.

Does your automatic pool cleaner get stuck?

A slight pull on the cleaner hose will generally cause the system to resume its normal travel along the floor and walls. Rather than lying down to give the hose a tug or reaching for your heavy 8 foot pole, hook the cleaner hose with your POōLE and give it a gentle pull which will cause the cleaner be move and continue to traverse the pool.

Using the POōLE to test the water.

If you're using a test kit that requires filling slots with water you're probably used to getting down on all fours and reaching into the pool to fill the test vial. Try this, fill the POōLE water sample bottle then pour the water in the test kit vial. If your using chemical test strips instead of lying down and swirling the strip in the water fill the POōLE water sample bottle, remove the bottle from the POōLE, and swirl the test strip in the bottle. You can also remove the POōLE bottle from the pole and clip your test strip under the bottle clip and swirl the entire POōLE pole in the pool. As with all maintenance done using the POōLE, it simple and can be accomplished while standing.

How do you take your pool’s temperature?

If you have a pool thermometer, it is probably hanging from a string attached to a ladder or a pool ring. To check the temperature you probably get down on your knees and lift the string to read the thermometer. Well, there is a much simpler way to take your pool’s temperature! Using the skimmer basket hook (the top hook) catch the thermometer string and lift it until the thermometer is out of the water and read the temperature. If the string is too short, make it longer. Remember, you own the thermometer so you can add as much string as you want. You will also get a more accurate reading the deeper the thermometer is in the pool.

Lowering the water level before installing a winter cover.

Many pool cover manufacturers recommend the water level be lowered before the cover is installed. The exact amount the water level should be lowered depends on the type of cover used, so check with your pool cover maker before lowering the water level. If the maker of your pool cover advised that the water level be lowered 18 inches, use the POōLE. From the red “Water Sample” line on the label to the top of the hook unit is about 18 inches. Accurate measurements should always be taken with a tape measure, but using the POōLE as a guide may save much of your leg work.
